ABSTRACT
On 12 September 2026 the CEO of a frontier AI lab published an essay titled "We Must Pace the Frontier". It says the industry must slow the pace at which it improves AI models, and that progress will still seem fast.
$PACE is the first token to take this seriously.
$PACE has no utility, no roadmap, and no team. It cannot be improved. Therefore it cannot be improved too fast. It is, by construction, the only fully paced asset on the market.
You cannot accelerate $PACE. You can only hold it at the pace at which it is already going, which is none.
FAQ: WHY CAN'T YOU JUST SLOW DOWN?
This is the question everyone asks a lab. Nobody asks it a coin. We answer both.
Q. If slowing down is so important, why doesn't the lab just slow down?
A. Because if one lab slows down and the others don't, the lab that slowed down loses. This is called the single lab problem. It is a real problem. It is also the exact reason nobody has ever slowed down.
$PACE solves this by being one coin. There is no other coin to defect against us. We have already won the race by not entering it.
Q. What about China?
A. What about China.
The essay says that if the West slows and China does not, the resulting capability gap "could lead to their geopolitical dominance". So the plan is to slow down, but not below the rate at which China is speeding up.
In other words: slow down, but faster than the other guy.

Q. What does slowing AI down actually produce?
A. According to the essay, in order: (1) third-party evaluators with desks, badges and laptops; (2) a common set of safety standards across democracies, brokered by governments so nobody gets sued for antitrust; (3) a global agreement with authoritarian regimes that either has "ironclad verifiability" or is small enough that cheating on it is not "militarily existential".
Step 1 is a desk. Step 3 is world peace. Step 2 is left as an exercise for the reader.

Q. If progress "will still seem fast", what is being slowed?

Q. Isn't it a little ironic that the person asking everyone to slow down runs one of the fastest labs?
A. Yes. We are a memecoin about it.
Q. Why did the call for slowing down happen now and not in 2023?
A. Because in 2023 the models could not act as agents, deceive evaluators, run cyberattacks, or escape sandboxes. Now they can. The argument is that a pause was premature back then and is appropriate now that the thing is loose.
$PACE respects this. We also believe the correct time to slow down is shortly after the point where slowing down would have mattered.
